چکیده

In this paper we address the problem of load balancing optimization of telecommunication networks based on multiple spanning tree routing. We focus on two objectives – minimization of the maximum link load and minimization of the network utilization imposing a worst case load value – and we propose two sets of mixed integer programming models defining the optimization problems (where one set is derived from the other). We further propose three decompositions (based on the Dantzig-Wolfe principle) to be applied to the models, as alternative means to solve the same problems. A set of computational results show the efficiency of the different models and decompositions.

Spanning Trees for Binary Directed De Bruijn Networks and Their Applications to Load Balancing

One of the major reasons of using parallel computer systems is that they have the potential for improving performance and resource sharing. To achieve this, an efficient way must be provided to broadcast a message or messages from a node to every other nodes in the system. However, the efficiency of transferring messages in a system is determined by the architecture of the underlying interconne...

Improving Load Balance of Ethernet Carrier Networks Using IEEE 802.1S MSTP with Multiple Regions

With IEEE 802.1S Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol, an Ethernet operator can define different network regions. A Common Spanning Tree (CST) is defined in such a way that a link failure inside a region does not affect the CST outside the region and additional Spanning Trees inside each region can be configured to achieve better load balance. We propose a procedure to determine the MSTP parameters ...

Improving Load Balance and Minimizing Service Disruption on Ethernet Networks with Ieee 802.1s Mstp

In this paper, we address the combined resource allocation and protocol parameter assignment problem of Ethernet networks using IEEE 802.1S Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP). MSTP enables (i) the definition of multiple network regions, where a Common Spanning Tree is set up between all switches, (ii) the set up of additional Spanning Trees inside each region and (iii) the assignment of eac...

Optimal Self-healing of Smart Distribution Grids Based on Spanning Trees to Improve System Reliability

In this paper, a self-healing approach for smart distribution network is presented based on Graph theory and cut sets. In the proposed Graph theory based approach, the upstream grid and all the existing microgrids are modeled as a common node after fault occurrence. Thereafter, the maneuvering lines which are in the cut sets are selected as the recovery path for alternatives networks by making ...
